Part of the Melange New Musical Theatre Festival
Two characters explore their identities and what it means to be a “Booksman”. Eventually, they are ready to move on to the next chapter of their lives.
There is a Man in an association called TAHRLD (The Association of Human Records of Life and Death), a home for “Booksmen” who record lives of the living people. These “Booksmen” were once humans but did not cherish their lives, therefore were condemned to be the “Booksmen” in TAHRLD after their death.
The story begins with the Man’s 426th anniversary in TAHRLD. He starts doubting TAHRLD and becomes disloyal to the Association. Reuben, a twenty-three year old young boy, is the Man’s last allocated subject to be recorded. During a winter night, Reuben falls into a coma after an accident, and his soul ends up at TAHRLD even though he is still alive. Without any prior memories, Reuben’s soul decides to cross the border and visit the world of the living again. At the same time the rumour about Reuben’s “undead soul” at TAHRLD is spreading among the “Booksmen”.
