“The Maiden Speech Festival kicks off this week at the Tristan Bates Theatre with an ambitious and varied programme of new work – and you can check out the full programme in our Curated Lists section on the Explore page. This one, Asper-Girl, is a one-woman musical guide about how to be normal. Written and performed by Hannah Cound, who has autism, it only has two performances so you need to get organised if you want to catch it.”
Overview
Asper-Girl is an autobiographical one-woman musical centred around the autistic experience. Using Spoon Theory to conserve energy, Hannah navigates the world around her through both autistic and neurotypical perspectives, creating her own style of music to rationalise a world that wasn't designed with her in mind.
