Guy Fawkes’ Mother is set in 1612, seven years after the infamous Plot and is based on historical research. Every year the country has been celebrating her son’s demise and every year November 5th brings back to his mother painful memories. How does she feel? How far does she play her part in this story? How does she and the country move forward? A talk to accompany the play lays out the social and religious context that led to the Gunpowder Plot. It explores both the key events and players and the plot itself. The talk introduces key places and specific terms used in the play. It explores the cultural and heritage of the November 5th plot upon the country’s current political landscape.
