You are invited to the ultimate test of brains, brawn, and brilliance. Over a series of rounds developed by Accredited Gameshow Experts, our three contestants will battle it out to win the title of “Most Admirable Person”. Their friends and families certainly think they’re admirable. The real question is, DO YOU?
I Want You To Admire Me/But You Shouldn't is a frenzied interactive theatre/live art performance that asks: what do we deem worthy of praise? How do we distort ourselves in our search for the admiration of others? The production is structured as a gameshow “on a loop”, partially dictated by the audience’s decisions. As each performer vies to be their most-loved contestant in this glitzy competition, the audience’s choices – via live voting and games – move the show from light-hearted silliness to
abject violence. The contests get more and more extreme; eventually, the gameshow format breaks down, revealing messy, chaotic, and beautiful truths beneath the veneer. The gameshow is accompanied by an improvised live musical score by award-winning composer David Denyer.
I Want You To Admire Me/But You Shouldn’t has been devised by Dirty Rascals. The show’s development has been supported with funding from Arts Council England and New Diorama Theatre’s Emerging Companies Fund.
