10 stories. 5 performers. 1 riotous celebration of History's Heroines
Pick up your average history textbook and you’d be forgiven for thinking the only people who did anything up to the 20th century were white, able-bodied men. We’re setting out to redress the balance.
Written by Lizzie Milton and directed by Nastazja Somers, 10 celebrates the all too often unacknowledged achievements of ten extraordinary and influential women. 10 explores the unique prejudices and obstacles women have and continue to face, particularly at the intersection of other minorities.
Including the stories of Æthelflæd (ruler of Mercia), Mary Prince (writer, abolitionist), Ada Lovelace (mathematician), Constance Markievicz (politician, revolutionary) and Gwen John (painter).
10 could improve in cohesiveness but sets a solid feminist foundation and introduces a group of bright role models that would otherwise remain overshadowed by male giants
10 is well worth a watch for how it brings to life the stories of exceptional women
