About The Vile Cabaret: Berlin to Paris

Born in Germany in 1900, Weill learned classical composition from some of the greats of German opera but was equally home playing the organ at synogogue and playing piano at the bierkeller. Our cabaret traces his musical journey from Berlin to Paris, where he fled during the Second World War. These songs are funny, satirical and dark. With words by the likes of Bertolt Brecht and Georg Kaiser, they make firm comments on the political and social climate of their time, with melodies that are as rousing and beautiful as they are abrasive.
