“Originally produced in a version by the National Theatre of Brent, Patrick Barlow’s tale of an attempt to recreate the nativity story should appeal to all those who have enjoyed The Play That Goes Wrong. In the original version it managed to combine the utterly ridiculous with something more touching. There are stars on hand with Hugh Dennis, John Marquez and Lesley Garrett attempting the greatest story ever told, and getting it blissfully wrong.”

Overview

A travelling theatre troupe of two actors and an opera singer arrive by camel in the ancient city of London to masterfully enact the greatest story ever told.

Join the absurdly talented Maurice Rose (Hugh Dennis), the alarmingly unpredictable Ronald Bream RAC (John Marquez), and the distinguished diva Mrs Doreen Small (Lesley Garrett), in a hilarious Christmas comedy that conjures up the sublime, the ridiculous and the truly angelic.

The Messiah promises to be the funniest and most magical Nativity you will ever see.

Critic reviews

Such engaging company that they make this funny, silly show joyous seasonal entertainment

London Theatre

Old-fashioned Christmas magic and lovable idiocy

Evening Standard

Dennis and Marquez crucially understand that good comedy comes out of a place of great seriousness, and they're seldom funnier than when Rose and Bream are at their most upset or fed-up

WhatsOnStage

Hugh Dennis stars in an splendidly silly reworking of Patrick Barlow’s take on the Nativity
