‘Tomorrow spring will come and then There will be blue skies my friend Bright eyes and laughter Tomorrow there will be sun’ Groundhog Day is the story of Phil Connors, a cynical Pittsburgh TV weatherman who is sent to cover the annual Groundhog Day event in the isolated small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, when he finds himself caught in a time loop, forced to repeat the same day again and again…and again. As each day plays out exactly the same as before Phil becomes increasingly despondent, but is there a lesson to be learnt through his experiences, will he ever unlock the secret and break the cycle? A comic parable of love, hope and transformation from the creatives behind Matilda The Musical and The Old Vic’s A Christmas Carol, this Olivier Award-winning (Best New Musical, Best Actor) musical sensation based on the 1993 hit film returns to The Old Vic this summer. Andy Karl reprises his role which earned him an Olivier Award as Phil Connors. Age Recommendation: 12+

Sent to cover the strange Groundhog Day Ceremony in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, Phil heads to the town reluctantly, feeling that the story is beneath him. February 2nd, Groundhog Day, is not a good day, and Phil is out of sorts and dissatisfied. This feeling only worsens when he awakens the next morning to find that February 2nd is happening all over again.
Faced with the prospect of repeating the same miserable day over and over again forever, Phil takes all kinds of drastic measures in order to try and free himself from the cycle. Perhaps it’s time for him to try something even more out of character and learn to enjoy Groundhog Day…
