Aurelia Thierree is the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin and the sister of James Thierree who has delighted with impressive shows including Au Revoir Parapluie and Raoul. Aurelia works on a smaller scale but is no less eye-catching in her circus inspired shows that are full of wonder and sleight of eye as well as sleight of hand. She can make you think that you have seen what you have not seen. She can make you feel the magic of the theatre and crush it too. Sometimes brutally. Here she collaborates with her mother Victoria Thierree Chaplin to create a piece about a kleptomaniac who is at the mercy of the objects she steals…
A coat hanger starts to walk, chairs and a table slide and slip away, while a wall opens up to reveal a pair of dancers, and a dress suddenly takes on a life of its own. Using ethereal imagery and unpredictable props, this enchanting piece of physical theatre blends the wonderful with the strange. Neither logic, reason nor seriousness has a voice as Aurelia Thierrée and dancer Jaime Martinez guide you through a story which combines surreal humour and a sense of magic. Directed by Victoria Thierrée Chaplin, Bells and Spells returns to The Coronet Theatre for its London premiere after a work in progress sharing during the Coronet International Festival in 2017.
