Multi award winning circus virtuoso Jess Love brings us Hell is Other People, tales of the darker side of falling in love. Love’s third full length solo show is an episodic journey that takes us back through a series of her most serious long-term relationships. Some hit with the blunt trauma of a shovel between the eyes, while others giving a taste of sanctity, love and respect before the rug is pulled unexpectedly. Pushing her unique blend of world class circus discipline, uncompromising autobiographical narrative and a well honed poetic visual language, this work is as touching as it is uncomfortable. A very raw, first draft of the show was performed at Sidesault Festival, Melbourne and won the Green Room Award for Experimental and Contemporary Performance Circus Production. This work is the first full length collaboration with director and movement specialist Joe Wild, and is the second show of the new circus theatre company Love is the Drug. This show contains full frontal nudity, adult themes including sexual abuse, drug and alcohol references, strong language, gas lighting and slut shaming. Names have been changed to protect the innocent... and the guilty.
