New Renaissance Collective Scratch Night: Venus & Adonis with consort music by Monteverdi and Gesualdo

Overview

Venus has known Adonis all his life. One day, she spots him hunting boar, and boldly confesses her love.

Affairs of the heart, though, are never simple. And love and hunting are dangerous occupations.

After their first, sell-out production of Beaten Gold, The New Renaissance Collective is proud to announce its next project to be a staging of Shakespeare's Venus and Adonis, with consort music by Monteverdi and Gesualdo, in association with the CLF Art Cafe in Peckham.

Since September, the group has worked with an extraordinary range of artists across the fields of music, dance, mask and puppetry - each helping them find a language with which to bring this strange, dreamlike poem to the stage. Now, they need your help!

The NRC is delighted to be hosting a scratch night, where you can see the results of these collaborations in one unique, transgressive performance.

The evening will move swiftly from live performance, to beer, to a feedback session - where your thoughts and impressions can help shape the results of the evening into a full-length production.

Collaboration is the heart of everything we do. Come and be a part of telling this story to the new generation.
