About The Fear
This world premiere by award-winning playwright Roy Williams charts the life of Michelle, who struggles to rebuild her life after a brutal encounter. Moving through several decades, this is a resonant story that exposes some harsh realities. The Fear is about police violence, inequality and why black lives matter. Directed by Lekan Lawal, 2019 winner of the Genesis Future Directors Award. Most recently he has directed Superblackman (Battersea Arts Centre) and Wild East (Young Vic). Further credits include, HY Brasil (Old Vic) and Betrayal (Derby Theatre).
