About History Unplugged

This original piece, written by Eloise Stewart and John Whelan, gives us a glimpse into a futuristic society where equality is enforced by any means necessary… even if this means rewriting the past. People’s Company seeks to keep audiences on the edge of their seats with the stories of remarkable women of Southwark. as told from the perspective of a group of students via a learning platform in the year 2349. Join us on this journey as we ask: – Is the future a dream within our reach, or are we sleepwalking into a nightmare? – How can the past shape our future? – Is connectivity a substitute for connection? In a utopian future where history can be erased at the blink of an eye, what will you do to make your mark on history? People’s Company is a community based theatre company that provides a free platform for the people of Southwark to be able to express themselves creatively through the medium of theatre. The company meets every Tuesday at Southwark Playhouse from 7-9pm where new writing, devising, and classical text is explored in a fun and creative way. This modern play (a tribute to Brecht) defies gender, race, age and cultural barriers, with a cast that reflects modern-day London.
