It’s easy for us to think we know the gist of history – gistory! – but do we REALLY know what’s been said before us or are we doomed to repeat ourselves? We’ll hear speeches from: Andrea Dworkin telling 500 men to imagine a world without rape. Virginia Woolf on how to murder your inner ‘good girl’ critic; Some of Margaret Thatcher’s most famous speeches, in a new light; Sacheen Littlefeather accepting Marlon Brando’s Oscar with a speech that told the world about the plight of her people; And how a white middle class women’s rights advocate and abolitionist gave escaped slave and abolitionist Sojourner Truth a fake southern accent. This special one-off show is to celebrate the launch of the book Outspoken: 50 Speeches by Incredible Women from Boudicca to Michelle Obama (Penguin, out 07/11/19), that was inspired by the show. Including speeches from Oprah, Audre Lorde, Annie Sprinkle, Vivienne Ming, Mary Wollstonecraft, and many more inspirational women. You’ll be able to purchase on the night.
