About The Merchant of Venice

In a society that exploits minorities to keep the majority in power, identity is everything. When ostracised Jewish moneylender, Shylock, chases a debt he is rightfully owed, it exposes the fault lines of a culture built on religious and moral hypocrisy. Director Abigail Graham brings together the personal and political in this re-imagining of Shylock’s play. We are See It Safely approved by Official London Theatre. This certifies that we are complying with the latest Government and industry guidelines to provide a Covid-secure environment for all our artists, staff, and visitors. If you can't make it to the liver performance, experience Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, from wherever you are in the world with a live streamed performance direct from the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse on 25 March 2022. Please see the Shakespeare's Globe website for more information.
