It just wouldn’t be summer without A Midsummer Night’s Dream in some form and this riff on the play within the play that we see in Shakespeare’s play is the first time the Globe has premiered a full scale production for children and families. Nick Bottom and his theatrical conspirators, buoyed by the success of their version of Pyramus and Thisbe played before the Duke at his nuptials are back and determined that their follow up production is the same riotous success. Sounds fun and silly.

About Midsummer Mechanicals

One midsummer’s night, a band of amateur actors led by Nick Bottom staged their first ever play. It was so bold, so brilliant and so chaotic that it went down in theatre history. Now these actors – known as the Mechanicals – are back to perform their latest masterpiece, and with half an hour to go until curtain-up, everything is in hand. The actors are (almost) assembled, the play is (nearly) rehearsed, and the audience (that’s you!) are ready. What could possibly go wrong? Everything, it turns out. Join us for side-splitting fun and mayhem as the Mechanicals create their new play – with your help! ‘Hanging out with these woodland thesps is a riot’ (The Times) and ‘a joy to watch…great family entertainment’ (British Theatre Guide). It’s a perfect first experience of Shakespeare’s plays as the Mechanicals ‘make a young audience feel right at home’ (The Guardian). A co-production with Splendid Productions, Midsummer Mechanicals is recommended for everyone from age 5 to 105.
