About Evolution Lab: Ad Nauseam & Rhino(s)

Inspired by the reframed and reclaimed classic plays in Rachel O’Riordan’s first season as the Lyric’s Artistic Director, the Evolution Lab invites four emerging directors to collaborate with design students from Wimbledon College of Art to re-imagine classic texts. Each evening during Evolution we’ll present two of these as a double-bill to and showcase how each director’s has experimented with their original plays. Rhino(s) A reimagining of Ionesco’s Rhinoceros Directed by Yasmin Hafesji Designed by Charlotte Von Szczepanski When a lone rhinoceros storms the streets, our protagonist pays little attention to it. As more rhinoceroses begin to appear all over the city, chaos ensues. Can one person stand firm whilst the world, as they know it, is under threat? Ad Nauseam A re-imagining of Ionesco’s The Bald Soprano Directed by Gavin Joseph Designed by Pip Terry In the near dystopian future, language has continued to dissolve, our senses have become numbed, and our behaviours have merged into one. Enter the Smith’s and Martin’s as they attempt to provide meaning to the meaningless.
