About Exile

It’s 2016. Donna’s life is thrown into disarray when she discovers she’s pregnant, forcing her to make a secret journey from her home in Ireland to get the help she needs. Darren drives a taxi in London, is married to Lesley, and has a baby on the way, but a chance encounter with his teenage love brings the secrets of his past hurtling into the present. Donna and Darren’s lives overlap for the briefest of moments, yet the impact they have on each other propels the two through the darkness that threatens to overwhelm them. Set against the backdrop of the criminalization of abortion that was a reality in Ireland just over two years ago. A monologue play for two that explores an all too recent history and contains Irish, feminist and LGBTQ themes, it is a frank and honest portrayal of the journey one must take when confronted with hard truths about themselves and their place within their home. Contains strong language, adult themes and discussions of abortion.
