Part of Calm Down Dear, a three-week festival of innovative feminist performance.
Overview
There has been no English lady here.
Iris is on a train, travelling alone. A foreign landscape whizzes by the windows. She meets a woman. While Iris is asleep, the woman disappears. When Iris looks for her, everyone says she’s imagining things—that the woman never existed. As the train speeds onwards, Iris tries to figure out what happened to her travelling companion and becomes entangled in a web of deception.
Exploring the power of manipulation, fake news and gaslighting, Vanishing deconstructs Hitchcock’s The Lady Vanishes and brings it into the 21st century to find out what happens when women’s stories aren’t believed. A new work-in-progress created by Sarah Sigal and Rebecca Dunn.
