PLEASE HOLD are a theatre collective who use spoken word, songs and movement to explore experiences of violence at the hands of the British state and how, together, we can survive them.

Review this show

“We are community campaigners, theatre practitioners, youth workers, office workers. We are mothers, brothers, sisters, grandmothers, friends. We are parents to twelve children. We are from Sudan, Palestine, Hungary, Turkey, UK, Lithuania, Rwanda, Spain, and many other backgrounds. We are refugees, asylum seekers, people with disabilities, people who have survived abuse, people who struggle with our mental health, single parents, people on benefits, people who are homeless, people who have struggled through the criminal justice system. But no matter what labels are ascribed to us, we are all survivors and fighters.

Sometimes we face struggles in life that mean we need extra help, but whether it’s through the job centre, the housing office, or the immigration system, Theresa May’s infamous Hostile Environment extends far beyond the Home Office. Many of us face punishing experiences through the guise of help, in the form of state bureaucracy. PLEASE HOLD is about naming this and sharing our experiences, but most importantly our coping strategies and stories of resistance.”

This is a work in progress showing of some of their material so far, followed by a Q&A with the artists.
