About North West
“The school is no longer there now and I see these really fancy apartments and I just wonder what is happening to the people in that area” North West is an in-person audio walk that starts at North Wharf Rd, W2. It is a site-specific audio artwork weaving music, sound and the verbatim testimony of former staff and students of North Westminster Community School, which stood in the Paddington Basin for 25 years. Artists and former students of the school Anna Morrissey and Tristan Kajanus have come together in their first collaboration to create a piece to experience through headphones as you walk the former site of the school. You will hear intimate stories, testimony and memories of some of the 40,000 comprehensive school students who passed through the school, before it and the surrounding estates were demolished to make way for towers full of luxury flats. North West can be experienced between 3rd-23rd May – attend any time in daylight hours. The experience lasts approximately 50 minutes. Location: North Wharf Rd, W2. The nearest tubes are Edgware Rd. Bakerloo Lin, District and Circle Line. To experience North West you’ll need headphones and a smartphone. North West Online is an at-home video animation. It is captioned and has been created for D/deaf audiences and those not able to attend in person. It is an animated multi-layered audiovisual artwork in its own right and an arresting alternative to the in-person experience. This captioned video is best experienced on a laptop or tablet and can be viewed any time between 3rd – 23rd May.
