Do you ever feel frustrated by mixed messages about beauty? The pressure to be a good feminist and love yourself, and also to be thinner and whiter, sexier and healthier? So did we. So we’re taking you on a journey through our histories of beauty, from the trivial to the terrifying. ‘The show about body image and insecurities we all wish we’d seen when we were 14’, Game Face is created and performed by a trio of international theatre-makers: Lucy Park (South Korea), Katie Paterson (UK) and Lexi Clare (New Zealand). Featuring original songs, sadistic game shows and some very scary balloons, this is a fresh and fearless show about the messages we get from our culture about our bodies, and how we cope with them. Game Face is a joyfully anarchic critique of oppressive beauty ideals and the effort it takes to resist them. Drawing on experiences of eating disorders, depression and self-objectification, Game Face mocks our beauty myths with wit, warmth, dancing and donuts. Featured in Calm Down, Dear Festival 2020: our annual festival of innovative feminist theatre. Age Recommendation: 14+ The performance contains references to suicide, eating disorders and sexual assault.
