Dirty Laundry

Dirty Laundry

Camden People's Theatre · 06 JUN - 06 JUN

Part of Calm Down Dear, a three-week festival of innovative feminist performance.

Overview

One day we heard a really good question:

“Why are the lives of western women valued more than the lives of us?” (The True Cost, Documentary, 2015).

This question, asked by a Bangladeshi garment worker, stopped us in our Black Friday tracks.

Who runs the world? GIRLS! Should women have equal rights? YES! Who buys sweatshop made clothes? ME! Oh no.

This opened up a Pandora’s box of questions that could not be shut. We thought, screamed, danced, acted and created. And now we ask: What do we really value most as a society, convenience or life?

Dirty Laundry is a dancer-actor collaboration exploring how mostly female garment workers’ pay the true price for quick, on-demand fashion. Our work in progress is stitched together through dance, comedy and audience interaction.
