Ugly Chief
2 (1) · New Writing, Fringe Theatre, Comedy
Ugly Chief is a comedy based on true events, performed by a real-life father and daughter. It explores the taboos around death, and the fractious relationship with a parent whose opinion you don't always agree with.
Overview
A new show from the creator of Major Tom and Hair Peace.
In 2013, Victoria Melody's dad (celebrity TV antique dealer, Mike Melody) was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Victoria trained as a funeral director so she could give him the service of his dreams - complete with eulogies, a Blackpool FC tangerine dress code and a New Orleans jazz procession. A year later the doctors realised they had misdiagnosed Mike. But they are going ahead with the funeral anyway...
Critic reviews
Smart, warm and unpretentiously funny.
In a ridiculously enjoyable show, Victoria Melody and her father, Mike, reveal how they came to organise his funeral even though he was still very much alive
It makes for a mongrel piece, as messy as life, as awkward as death and as funny as anything spinning out of control
