Nosedive

Nosedive

Barbican Centre · 07 NOV - 16 NOV

A child climbs onto an adult’s shoulders and they look out. They see hope but also destruction.

Overview

One generation after another reaches higher, sees further, hurtling toward a future they can’t control.

Pushing themselves to the limit, dancing with abandon, colliding into each other, children and adults perform feats and leaps that grow ever bolder, ever more impressive, revealing an intricate and resilient bond. As their roles are subtly reordered, this intergenerational show becomes an unlikely metaphor for how we consider age, pitting our instinct to protect children against the wild abandon and joy of childhood.

Directed by Ellie Dubois and Pete Lannon of Scotland-based SUPERFAN, Nosedive uses contemporary theatre and circus to look at how cooperation, trust and security shift at varying stages of life, especially as we get older. Dubois recently won a Herald Angel Award for her sold-out Edinburgh Fringe piece No Show.

Age Recommendation: 8+

Critic reviews

A thought-provoking visual spectacle from a group of obscenely talented performers

The Upcoming

Extraordinarily eloquent and startingly intense

The Times

For a largely non-verbal, physical theatre piece, the production has a lot to say

WhatsOnStage

SUPERFAN are masters of inference – the smallest head tilt could be a whole planet spinning out of orbit

Exeunt

Well-meaning physical theatre show doesn’t square up to the issue of climate change
