About Virtual Collaborators Festival: Digital

Virtual Collaborators was founded in March 2020 by Danusia Samal as a response to the closure of the UK theatre industry due to COVID-19. Teams of one writer, one actor and one director were matched to create a new piece of theatre under lockdown conditions. Over 50 creatives were involved. The Guardian featured selected pieces over three weeks. The initiative was hugely successful, with the Guardian articles receiving over 25,000 views and the films being being over 20,000 times. Now we’re even bigger! Virtual Collaborators has partnered with Olivia Munk of Part of the Main Productions to deliver a festival of digital work from Aug 17th – 31st 2020 (Click here for full programme), followed by an outdoor festival 12-13 September on the historic grounds of St John’s Church Leytonstone. The festival is supported by Waltham Forest Council as part of their borough-wide culture programme. Expect theatre, music, and an exciting exploration of live performance in the new normal from our team of artists. Virtual Collaborators is made up of 100+ creative individuals who have been taking part in a five-week programme of masterclasses, mentorship and support from our industry partners in theatre and TV (see our partners). We are thrilled to be working with Soho Theatre, Shoreditch Town Hall, Theatre503, The Space, The Finborough, Coney Theatre, Little Door TV, Balloon Entertainment, and many more companies and freelance creatives.
