“I really loved Nathan Ellis’ work.txt at the Vault Festival earlier this year, and this online theatrical experience is a digital version of that innovative show that had no actors, only a playing audience. It was a work in progress and it should have been playing at the Incoming Festival this week but instead it is being reimagined on screen. The really cheeky thing about it both in the real word and on Zoom is that it gets the audience to do all the work even as it questions the nature and function of work. Like all layered shows I imagine its meaning will have changed over the last 12 weeks. When I saw the show it was in the context of a busy, over-worked world where nobody ever sleeps. Now it will take place in the context of a world that pressed the pause button and is struggling to get going again.”
“We have sadly had to cancel Incoming Festival this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and are delighted to be able to present work_from_home as an entirely free, online theatrical experience.”

Before Coronavirus, we were working all the time, we were worried about the gig economy and burnout, and now everything’s stopped. Now everyone is working on their sourdough starters, trying to be productive, feeling scared, trying to get going again.

work_from_home is an interactive play performed entirely by participants on a Zoom call, about when things stop working. It is an entirely new, digital, interactive adaptation of Nathan Ellis’ play work.txt, which was nominated for an Innovation Award at VAULT Festival 2020.

You will log on, you will do nothing, you will contribute, you will be essential.

Presented by New Diorama Theatre and Incoming Festival, this production is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
